Deadlock in "Initializing Installation" while installing updates

Hi,
I tried to install automatic updates in my new Windows XP pro system..
but it doesnt go beyond "Initializing Installation " dialog box..and the
overall progress remains zero...
I had to cancel the process after waiting for 4 hours..
Can anyone help me why this is happening?

Suggest you show hidden files, folders, and system files:

Navigate to WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Delete *all* contents

Navigate to WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache
Delete *all* contents

Download and save the following:

Windows Update Agent 3.0 (32 bit)
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

Update for Windows XP (KB927891)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Close the browser
Install WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe first, then install
WindowsXP-KB927891-v3-x86-ENU.exe
Restart the system

The updates should now download via Automatic Updates or, initiate a
manual visit to Windows Update

Did that resolve the issue ?
If not, please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log
located in the WINDOWS directory [folder].

Thanks for your reply.It has solved the deadlock problem that I was facing
after initializing the installs,but it seems due to the some reason none of
the updates are getting installed.I get a message saying that 'Updates are
not installed' in the end.

0x80070002 - The System cannot find the file specified

What's happening is the system thinks the updates have already been
downloaded to the system and, in reality, they are not present.

Try this ... go to Start > Run > type in [or, copy & paste]

wuauclt /detectnow

Click OK or press Enter
That will initiate Automatic Updates to check for any needed updates
Depending on how Automatic Updates is set, you will either be Notified
of available updates, they will be downloaded and you will be Notified
when they are ready to install, or, they will download and install.

But nothings seems to happen on doing that.
I am still getting the same old message that' updates are ready to be
installed 'and when I would click that...the system wont install any..!
