Default Domain Controller

Can you make a server/workstation use a specific domain controller if 2 is on
network? Using a 2003 AD network

If you are using sites and have the DC and the workstation in the same site.

I have 2 physical sites with a DC in each. Several workstation and 2 servers
are using the DC from site B even though they are located within site A.
When I reboot those pcs they still pull from site B. I turned the DC off in
site B and rebooted those pc's but they will not log in because it can not
find a DC. How do you make those pcs/server use the DC in Site A.

If that is the case, something is not setup properly. If a DC is multihomed,
or the domain is a single label name, that can cause problems with DNS
lookups and getting the correct Site DC/GC.

Are both DCs, GCs?

Did you absolutely confirm that your sites are configured properly, and the
proper IP subnet objects were created, and that the subnet objects were
associated with their respective site?

Do you have a screen shot of your site config and properties, where we can
confirm that for you?

Both sites are GC's but I see that Site B is listed in Site A as well in Site B

TechSupport,

That doesn't make sense, sorry. One site cannot be part of another. They are
separate, physical entities. I agree with Danny that your Sites are
incorrectly configured. Sites are designed to control two things:
logon/authentication traffic, and replication traffic. If not configured
properly, they won't do their job.

Basically, in Sites and Services, you create a new subnet Object, such as
192.168.20.0/24. Then create a new Site, call it NY-Site (or whatever), then
associate the 192.168.20.0/24 subnet object to the site. Then do the same
for the other location. Then move your servers around in the Sites list so
they are in the appropriate sites. Danny gave you links to specifically help
with that.

Make sure the AD sites and services reflect your physical topology with subnets
added to the site and the correct DCs moved in that site.

My guess is both dc's aren't dns/gc servers -or- the clients network
settings don't include the second dns server.

Post an ipconfig /all of all your dc's and dns servers as well as a client.
Make sure to not expose any internal ip addresses if they aren't using
public ip addresses (192.168.x.x etc).
