What would be the preferred setting for the Default Program in Control Panel
(Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 32 bit), if any?
Is choosing IE a good idea?

Harry.

You choose which browser you want to open hyperlinks by default. Same
with email etc. I choose Firefox but you may prefer IE so there is no
cut and dried answer to that question.

Choosing IE is a good idea if you want to use IE. If you want to use
another browser, choose that one.

Hi,

The preferred setting is for the pc to use the program you want for any
given action, whether that be web browsing, media playing, or editing text
among others. Everyone has their own preferences, set yours accordingly.

The BEST setting for you in that situation is probably the big red X in the
upper right-hand corner.

That's the kind of answer I was looking for, thank you.
And thanks for the other contributions also.

Harry.
