Hi,

When I open Windows Explorer, I'd like to have it open to a default view every time, with certain folders open, etc. Is this possible? I'm on Vista.

Thanks!
Frank

No, it isn't possible and I would change my nick if I were you or you'll
be confused with a particular asshole poster here named Frank.

Yes it is . Try the following . Windows Explorer\Properties\Shortcut Tab and in the Target window put in the following

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e,c:

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the help. I guess I just thought that Windows Explorer should
either remember the state you last had it in the last time it closed, or
that there would be an option to use current as default, or something like
that. Seems weird that you'd have to enter in a string manually.

Thanks!
Frank

Set the options you like, then go into If you go into Tools / Folder
Options / View (make any tweaks you want) and click "apply to
folders".

Somewhat undocumented: In some folders you will need to customize the
window size & columns and do File->Close while holding the shift key.
In windows without a File menu (like the open dialog in programs), you
can click the "X" in the corner while holding the shift key and that
may work.

Note that everything except the first option (Tools->Options) is
somewhat undocumented. Vista has a verified habit of forgetting the
settings you want rather regularly and the reasons are unknown. The
tricks in the second paragraph seem to work, but whether Vista is
actually paying attention to what you do or just granting you the
nicety of remembering the setting for a while, I can't say. I do know
that no matter what you do, it will forget the settings eventually.
