Defender Classification, Startup Programs

I am tired of answering all the questions about startup programs (Vistat
Premium, Defender). I cannot find a way to tell Defender that the programs
are OK to run. In the Software Explorer window the buttons to enable a
program are unavailable. Is there a way to change the settings in Defender,
or do I need to throw Vista away and go back to XP?

Hi Magoi,

This tutorial will show you how to adjust Windows Defender settings.
You might also look in Tools -> Quarantined items in Windows Defender to
see if anything is being blocked to.

This tutorial will show you how to enable startup programs with a few
methods.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the response. However, this does not tell me how to do what I
want. By the way, the Method 1, Windows Defender tutorial is hosed - it
frequently refers to a screenshot from Step 6 which does not exist.

I am not interested in enabling, disabling, or deleting a program from
startup. I want to stop the incessant windows asking for permission to run a
program I want in startup - the programs are for supporting the motherboard.
It is also blocking one of the motherboard programs. I want to find the
switches in Defender that will stop the notification windows and stop the
blocking of programs. The only alleged help I can find on the MS web pages
says to get different programs. Again, the only solution I can find is to
stop using Vista.

I agree with Magoi.

After negotiating intertwined links, I find NOTHING that
enables me (or Magoi) to do what was needed: stopping
that annoying initial announcement that "Windows has
blocked..."

Surely there is a place where I can permanently advise
Windows that Avast! is not the spawn of Satan, or Java,
HotSync manager, and Synaptics touchpad manager are
really okay in my book. When I look at "blocked
programs" in the notification area, they're listed - but
as "permitted". Doesn't Windows have the ability to
remember what worked last time?

????

Right click Defender in the task bar > choose Open
Choose Tools from the menu bar > Chose Allowed Items (Lower left)
I trust you can figure it out from there.

Magoi,

Try reinstalling the programs that are being asked for permission. If
the Windows Defender pop-up comes up, then click on it and click Permit
and Apply Actions. See the example in this tutorial.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69...ification.html

You can also check in Windows Defender to see if anything is being
blocked. Click Tools -> Quarantined Items. Approve the ones you want.

Look at Method Two step 9 to see if this is what you see when it says
it is blocking a program. If so, you can see how to stop it in steps 9
to 12.
