Defender keeps waking up my PC

HP has a nice website explaining what to do if the computer won't go
to sleep. Took me a while, but I finally nailed it down: It's
Windows Defender. If I disable Defender, computer sleeps fine.

So, what's it doing? It's scheduled to scan once a week, Monday at
Noon. But the computer won't hibernate for more than a few minutes
without waking up, and never goes to sleep on it's own.

I don't use any other protection, so I would rather let Defender do
it's job. I just can't figure out why it won't let my computer
sleep!!

Computer used to sleep fine, so I assume something got changed in
Defender, perhaps by me, perhaps not.....

Does anyone know of a setting in here somewhere that would let my poor
PC sleep??

Thanks, all!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Check in Task Scheduler to see if Windows Defender is set to wake the
computer up.

1. Open Control Panel (Classic View)
2. Click Administrative Tools
3. Click Computer Management (It will take a moment to load)
4. In the right pane, click VIEW and click "Show Hidden Tasks" to check
it.
5. In the left pane, expand the "Task Scheduler" listing until you see
the "Windows Defender" folder.
6. Click on the "Windows Defender" folder.
7. In the middle pane, right click on the "MP Scheduled Scan" listing
and click Properties.
8. Click on the Conditions tab in the new window.
9. Make sure that "Wake the computer up to run this task" is unchecked.
10. Click OK

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the reply, Shawn....

No, that was NOT checked.

Now, for some reason, the computer will not sleep even if Defender is
disabled. I guess I'll disable everything that has to do with the
Internet, and see what happens.....rrrrr......

Thanks again!

Mike,

You might run through the steps in this troubleshooting guide, for
sleep mode problems, to see if there is anything you have not tried yet.
