Useful discussion group - & my 1st post! Every time I boot up, Windows
security alert tells me Defender is out of date but when I try to update I
receive message that there are no new definitions available. OS is Vista HP
+SP1; also running AVG antivirus + Lavasoft ad-aware (both free versions). I
cannot d/load latest version of Defender from M/soft coz message tells me
this s/ware is already preinstalled, and I cannot disable or uninstall
Defender from my h/drive (what is the point of being obliged to keep
something which is not working properly so you can replace it with something
that is?!) Any advice much appreciated. Gazza.

Hello Gazza,

It may well be worth your while to go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal

and download the 32-bit definitions for Windows Defender--in the right
column.

(unless you know that you are running a 64-bit version of Windows.)
