Definition Update Fails

I have tried to install the latest Windows Defender definition update
(Definition 1.15.2233.6) many times. It keeps failing with this error:

Installation Failure
Error Code: 0x80070012

I can't find any reference to this error code anywhere on microsoft.com. Can
anyone suggest why this definition update is failing? I have never had a
problem before.

Yarmey,

Open the WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download folder
There should be an Install folder containing the executable, mpas.exe,
for installing the latest definitions.
Right click it and choose Properties to see if it is the latest defs.
The date modified should be listed on the General page, clicking the
Version tab should show 1.15.2233.6

If so, double click it to install it.

how the problem could be solved?

Is this on Vista or XP ?
