I ran the OS version of defrag for the 1st time. Is there a way to follow the
progress as in previous versions of windows. All I saw was an inactive window
w/ the spinning wheel.

No!

This is normal.

SP1 will also allow you to select the volume you wish to defrag.

You'll have to pay and get a good third party defragger such as
Diskeeper if you want to something significantly more than what the
default Vista defrag offers. But that said, Diskeeper has much more
than mere eye candy- you can select what type of defrag you want to run
on specific volumes, defrag system files etc., all of which the vista
defragger lacks.

I use PerfectDisk. MS Certified and Vista Certified. Like Diskeeper,
PerfectDisk is leagues ahead of the Vista defragger. Also not free,
but worth the minimal cost involved for ease of use.

Hi Dave Goldman,

You might consider using the free Auslogics Disk Defrag when you want
to monitor the progress. It has all the progress and information bars
and graphs.

'Disk Defrag - Reclaim the Speed Of Your Disks'
