delay network connection

HI there
my computer connects to broabband network immediately until recently, there
is a short delay (perhaps 30-60 seconds), can anyone advice how to figure
out this annoying problem, though I can wait for that, seems to me something
wrong or is going to be wrong with my computer. With thanks.

Vista needs some time to do internal work after some updates especially if
you do not leave the machine powered on in sleep mode overnight. Then When
you turn it on it prioritizes things. Internet connection is not high on the
list. 30-60 Seconds is a small price to pay.

The good news: (1) with subsequent usage the time will get shorter (2) leave
the machine overnight to do maintenance and defragmenting. It will pay off.

C.B., It is not your advanced age, it is NOT my font style. I have no idea
what it is. I got this from the OP. Precisely the way you see it: bleached
and html.

It is the second time I am having it. I remember that the firs time the
poster was also Chinese. I don't know it if has anything to do with it or
not.

The first time I tried to switch it to plain text. I WOULD NOT allow me to
do it. it was eerie. I gave up and sent the first one (a few weeks ago) the
was it was. This time I did not even try. This post is like chiseled in
copper or something.

Perhaps someone else could figure it out. I cannot.

Yes, I checked it again. My option is to send NG messages in Plain Text. I
can barely see what I am typing in here. It is only those selected posts.

Hey AlexB,

I don't know what the problem is. I just opened up Options and
unchecked "Reply to messages using the format in which they were sent". Let
me know if this helps.
Actually, I'm not that old; 58 and counting. Just rolling out of bed
each day makes it a good day for me. But then again, once it warms up I'll
be back to 30,000-50,000 square feet of concrete a day on second shift.
Jesus, I can't tell you how much that sucks.

The network connection is started BEFORE the user logs on. It is provided
as a service, and services start at Windows bootup, not user login.

Edward, could be a DHCP delay, if you are using DHCP.

You can check by issuing: ipconfig from a command prompt.

Start up the PC, as soon as possible, open a cmd prompt, type: ipconfig
and press return.

If it comes back with an IP address of 0.0.0.0, that means it is still
waiting on the DHCP server response.

If in the range of 169.254.x.x it means that a DHCP server did not
respond and has timed out.

You can do ipconfig every 10 seconds until it shows you a valid IP
address. Just wait in the cmd prompt window, press the up arrow to bring
back the last command. From your OP, I would guess this would be after
30-60 seconds.

This will only determine if it is a DHCP delay causing the issue. If it
is, you can then either troubleshoot the DHCP issue, or set a static IP
address.
