Vista has this annoying habit of stopping what ever is going on to do
an instant upgrade. s there a way to stop this and have Vista treat
upgrades as XP Pro did??

You can set how the updates work by going to
Start
Control Panel
Security
Windows Update
and on the left there you can click on
Change Settings
and pick how you want it to work with updates.
Hope this helps ya.

By upgrade do you mean the windows update? You can turn the auto off in
Vista just as with XP. I have it off on mine, just as I did with XP. The
reason being now and then MS puts out an update that has unintended
consequences. I wait till the new updates have been out for a week or so,
and if I don't read of any problems then I take them. If some problem does
pop up, then I can either wait, or if it's something that will not effect
me, take it. You will get the little warning box now and then telling you to
check your setting, because you have auto up date turned off, but that's no
big deal to me. Makers of many computers have a program in them that checks
for software updates for your computer every so often. All of the Toshiba's
I have owned did this. This HP does it every so often, pop up tells me it
wants to check and waits for me to say yes. Is this what you are seeing?
