Somehow I managed to download the update for office xp service pack 3, but it
isn't able to download because I only have the home edition. Is there any
whay that I can delete the download so that the automatic update thing isn't
poping up all of the time?
I anyone has any advice on how to fix this it would be much appreciated.

Huh?
"Home Edition" of what? Windows XP?

Office XP Service Pack 3 is for the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint) XP Suite - not Windows XP - your Operating System everything is
running on top of.

You need Office XP Service Pack 3 *if* you have Office XP installed.
Windows XP Home Edition should be up to Service Pack 2.

*IF* you have Office XP...
You should attempt to download the full Office XP Service Pack 3
file from this site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/
(Specifically : http://snipurl.com/hlij )

Once obtained, try running this and installing from the local file. It will
likely ask you for your original installation media - so go ahead and have
that in place.

How is it *trying to be installed*?
Please explain exactly what you are seeing?
What does your event log tell you?
When you go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for updates
(custom) --> what do you see?

There is the automatic udate shield icon by my clock and it says there is a
download ready to install, and it is the Office XP service pack 3. In the
Update History page at the Microsoft Update webite says that the download is
from automatic update and that it failed. When microsoft update scans my
computer it tells me i have to download this "windows genuine advantage tool"
but it tells me to do it over and over again. I think I've downloaded that 7
times now and it tells me to keep doing that.

Supr_star -- I have the same problems as you. I inadvertently downloaded an
update for Office XP. I have Office 2000, not XP. If you find out how to
stop the auto-update popup and wish to share the "secret", I'd appreciate
your help.
