How can I delete a failed update from the list. I have tow of them listed:
one successfully installed and the other one failed.

I would like to delete the failed one from the list.

Thanks,

Howard

Could you please clarify which list you are referring to?

Your update history cannot be edited. It's data is kept in a resource dll
and is a protected system file. Replacing the dll with sfc would wipe it all
out, not edit one entry.

Use the "Ratings" feature. It helps the new users.

Which update failed?

No need to delete any update, failed or not, from the list, just reinstall
any that might have failed the first time.

Did you know you can manually install any update that may have failed?

http://www.microsoft.com/protect/com...ns/200807.mspx

"To manually download available updates, go to Microsoft Update or in
Windows Vista go to your control panel. After your computer has been scanned
to see which updates it needs, click the Custom button to find and choose
the update you want to install. We recommend you install all High-Priority
Security and Critical updates immediately.

"We recommend that you get the updates delivered automatically to your PC.
When your computer is on and connected to the Internet, the most current
security updates are automatically downloaded and installed. To learn how to
turn on automatic updating for your particular operating system, see Update
your computer automatically."

Stanford,
I don't know how old your boilerplate is but I've got Vista Ultimate and there is no "custom" button but there is an option to "View available updates" which will allow you to check/uncheck updates for installation.

This is written for XP and Vista.

?See where it says at the outset, "To manually download available updates,
go to Microsoft Update or in
Windows Vista go to your control panel."
