Deleting desktop items

I have an item on my desktop which was created by a downloaded PPl file.
I have deleted the file however the icon is still on my desktop.A right
click to delete the icon says "file not found".
How can I delete this icon please

Have you rebooted? This happened to me in start menu, reboot corrected it.

If you cannot delete it after a reboot...
you could try starting in SafeMode...
maybe you could delete it then.

John, thank you for your response. No help because for some reason there
is no files associated with the icon hence file deleters dont work. All
I have is an unassociated Icon on my desktop.

Try a right click on empty dektop area and click 'refresh'.

Tx Tom have tried that also with no luck. Tried reboot-Still there
Even tried DOS. But there is no file there
I have even prayed to Bill Gates for his divine intervention,but ala
the pesky icon is still there mocking me
Any more suggestions

Hi ,

Try downloading the file again to the same location. Delete the
shortcut first , then the file.

( If the file is still in the recycle bin , - no need to download
again , just restore it)

It worked just fine. Icon now gone
