Hi guys. I thought I knew a lot about computers. I guess I don't. I am having
a hard time with Vista and it's permissions.

It won't let me shred or delete certain files and folders. Usually it is
files and folders I have uninstalled, and fragments of the program are still
left. They won't go away. Can't delete them or shred them..it won't let you.
I am the administrator and have permissions all over the place...still can't
get rid of these things. It won't let me get rid of empty folders sometimes.
And yet, 80% of all the other stuff goes away fine. Any thought or
advice..please? Greg

Hi,

Running as admin is insufficient to make changes to folders created in the
Program Files directory, you need to run either explorer or a command prompt
with elevated privileges for it to work. Do so by right clicking the program
or icon for it and using 'run as administrator'.

Rick-

Thanx for getting back to me.

I don't see "Windows Explorer"?

I know all the previous versions of Windows had it. Where is it in Vista? I
tried to click on one of my problem folders (right clicked), and didn't see
"Run as administrator"? Sorry to bother you again.

Explorer is just where it always was. Right click the Start button and look
in the menu.

Hi Greg,

Just type it into the search line when you click on the start button. The
entry will appear in the menu. Same thing with the command prompt, just type
CMD into the line.
