The following folder has appeared in my root directory:
e7775b74f0187ae60d2f0cd51d1b19e1 and inside that is a folder called Update
containing files:eula.txt, update.exe, update.inf, update.ver, updspapi.dll,
wudf01005.cat and wudfcustom.dll.

I have tried every means to delete these files and folder, including Safe
Mode with Command Line but nothing works.

How do I get rid of them?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." That folder and similar folders should
be deleted automatically over time.

What if the folders/files are on an external drive that happened to be
connected when Windows Update was run (a.k.a., it's broke)...?

Was able to delete the files using "Unlocker", which did not detected the
files as "locked" but offered to delete them which it did successfully.
