Hi,

Are there any MVP's out there that can tell me how to safely delete 'Windows
Live Messenger' contacts on an old computer that I want to give to my
daughter, but keep them on a new computer that I have?

I tried deleting contacts on the old computer but I found it was deleting
them on the new computer as well.

I do not want this to happen as I want them left there on the new computer.
Could you give me step by step instructions on how to go about this?

Please! Please! Please! Help me with this problem.

Thanking you kindly

Wendy

Afaik you cannot delete a contact on the old computer for them to show up on
the new computer, delete on one & they're deleted on any new installation as
well & you have to add them again. You can just sign out & remove any auto
sign-in features which remembers your details or you have to remove Live
Messenger.

Hth,

Time Lady.

Wendy,

You can't as the contacts list is stored server side. What you need to do is
click the forget me link on the sign in page (you might need to click the
down arrow to the right of the sign is as status to see this link). This
will delete your login details from the computer.
Once you have done this also make sure you securely delete the files in
Documents/My Received Files (or similar depending on your OS) to remove any
saved chat histories and any downloaded attachments.

Regards

Greetings Wendy,

Myself and others have already answered your question as best as we can to your other two
posts.

I'm just replying so you don't think you're being ignored.

Thank you Jonathan and everybody for your help. I sent three posts~because
I suppose I was a little impatient and did not get an immediate answer for
my first post.

My apologies for my impatience and thank you for all your answers.

In the end, I managed to fathom it out for myself. I completely closed down
my account in Windows Live Messenger on the old computer but it was still
there with all my contacts on the new one. Simple really. Looking at your
suggestions, I could have done it those ways as well but there you go, it
got sorted in the end.

Thanks for all your help and replies.

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

It does sometimes take a bit of time for the posts to appear, so you're certainly not the
first to make several posts on the same topic.

Glad everything is sorted out though.
