Hello
We have a problem updating Windows XP with SP1 on a Dell D600.
When connecting to the Update Site following error occurs 0x80244016.
And no further update is possible.
When I installed XP without SP and then manually install SP1 everythings
works fine.
Does anyone know if this is a dell problem or my mistake.
By the way the Dell Gold Support doesn`t know anything

Thank you for your answers

Sascha

Sascha,

Not quite sure what you mean by " When I installed XP without SP and
then manually install SP1 everythings works fine ". Please clarify.

Try clearing out IE's cache by going to Internet Options in the
Control Panel, clicking the Delete files button, putting a check
next to Delete all offline contents, then clicking OK, and OK.

Then download, save, close IE, and install :

1. Delete temporary internet files and enable scripting of activex
control files and then test.
2. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) version 2.0 and
WinHTTP 5.1 for Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=842773

Reboot the system then try to access Windows Update. If that fails
open the WindowsUpdate.log found in the WINDOWS directory with
Notepad. Scroll down towards the bottom for the most recent entries
and either see if you can locate any error codes or just post the
last 20-30 lines of the log in your next post.

Hello

What i meant with "When I installed XP without SP" was I installed XP
without any SP integrated or any Hotfix .
I tried your tip number 2 and then it works fine.
What surprises me is the fact that when I install XP on a Toshiba Laptop
with SP1 integrated I dont have to apply 842773 Patch manually.

But newertheless Thank your for your help and a Mery Christmas and a Happy
New Year
