Dell laptop not booting

Hi All

My laptop (a dell XPS m1530) seems to have died and I was hoping for some help. It happened when the battery ran out and the laptop shut down. When it was recharged and started it now doesn't boot up.

Every time I boot up I get taken to "Launch startup repair (recommeneded)". This then runs, searches for problems but then says it cannot repair the computer automatically. I've gone into advanced options and tried both "Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool" - which doesn't find any problems; and "System Restore" which fails ("system restore failed due to an unspecified error. The system cannot find the path specified").

I do have backups but have been slack - would lose a few months data which would be pretty upsetting.

Help!!
