Dell Latitude D410 w/ Intel 915GM Graphics Chipset Display Problem

Running Vista RC1 32-bit

System is a dell latitude d410 w. intel 915gm display chipset.

Problem is that the screen can only be set at a maximum of 1024x768 under
resolution for the PnP monitor and that it can not be increased to the native
resolution of 1280x1024 when using the pnp monitor, there is another monitor
listed, the default monitor and when selected it will allow me to change the
display to the correct resolution in the settings but when i goto apply it
changes back to the pnp monitor and the 1024x768 resolution no matter what i
do. i have tried making the other monitor the primary and setting the pnp as
not attached.
