dell printer error after update

AFter installing the update (10-12-05) I am getting several errors. I
especially cannot print to my Dell Laser printer 1700 that is shared from
another computer. The local computer can print. I am running win 2000 pro.
As soon as I try to print to MS Word, I get a program error box... no error
code.

Start with reinstalling the drivers for the printer.

I did that... still no luck. I called Dell to ask if they had anyone else
report problems. They said no but then saw on their support forum that
several people had the same problem.

We have found a similar problem. It is not the Dell printer but rather the
print spooler service is being terminated. A quick look in the system event
log should verify this. A solution to this problem is to set the recovery of
the print spooler service (spoolsv.exe) to "Restart the Service" on failure.
Works for me!
The two of three of our systems which have performed the same upgrade had
the same problem with HP Photosmart and brother printers.
