desktop gone

hi all
the problem i have is this
when i start the program manager (my computer (file manager)), i
disapears, taking the destop with it, all icons and the task bar ar
gone. making windows useless!!
after restarting, i get the same result

i am not sure what info you need, so please ask if you need any more
