Desktop icons not URL specific

The website icons associated with the URL and contained in the Properties
window of the desktop shortcuts do not actually show up on my desktop. I get
generic Windows-generated icons instead. How can this be and how do I
correct this? It seems that I can only change them to what is contained in
the Windows icon library.

Try this:
Right click on desktop/View/click "Classic Icons".
If you have an icon for a certain url (w/ standard Vista E)saved to
desktop, delete it now.
Open Internet Explorer then go to webpage. Next, go to File/Send/click
on "Shortcut to Desktop".
The correct icon(w colors!) should now be there.

The reason why I joined this forum was i now have a new laptop running
Vista Home Premium. In my old XP Pro, if I went to a website such as
comcast.net, I would be able to drag and drop the icon onto my desktop
and it would create a duplicate icon on the desktop. But with Vista, it
creates an icon but its an E icon.
Thats why i responded to Rich Bee w:

In essence, I found my own answer by putting together the bits and
pieces I found. I did see your post and tried it but not with the
results I expected.
Thanx for the com back!

RP2U,

Yeah, the only drawback is that you have to add you own icon for
regular shortcut.

I just get bugged eyed with the small *Classic Icons* view though.

Hi,

Brilliant, works fine until you move the shortcut into a folder on the
desktop then it reverts back to the default !!!!

So, in order to get website specific icons, you need to use the "classic"
option. This "classic" option is also referred to as "small". Thus, we are
stuck with itty bitty icons to use website specific icons? That's pretty
poopy, imo.
