Hi

Recently ran a regclean program a s part of routine maintenance. Firs
time on my vista machine but I never had a problem on any of my x
machines

First time I rebooted, I received
C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a locatio
that is unavailible. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or o
a network. Check to to make sure the disk is proper ly inserted..

My Desktop does not appear, no programs will execute and access to mos
system areas and internet are non functional

Any ideas

Thanks

If you can get into Safe Mode, undo what the registry cleaner "cleaned"
and don't use a registry cleaner ever again.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

Hi,
Boot into safe mode and make a system restore to a moment previous to to
registry clean.
Never use a registry cleaner again.
They cause more trouble than what the fix.

come up when I try to search. very odd and disturbing.

Ok. I tried a couple of different things:

1. Tried starting in safe mode with command prompt then typing the
command SFC /SCANNOW and was told that the system could not start the
repair program.

2. Attempted to reboot in safe mode and choose from last "good boot"
but still no desktop.

Any suggestions? Methinks I am approaching a reload or the dreaded HP
recovery partition.

Thanks

Windows Key + R type in the following path:
C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windo ws\Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories\

Right click Command Prompt and click 'Run as Administrator'

If the Run Command does not appear, press CTRL-ALT-DEL on the keyboar, click
'Task Manager' > Click File > New Task (Run..) > and type in the
aforementioned path.

I would take the hard drive out and set the jumpers to slave if you
haven't got everything backed up and put it in another computer to back
up your data and go for the recovery partition and DON'T USE REGISTRY
CLEANERS AGAIN! :-)

If you have your Windows Vista installation disk try repairing your system.
Boot from your Windows Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the
setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.
