Hello,

I have vista on my laptop - and I have a removable usb drive for
backing up to.
I must have done something wrong as if I start up with this drive in
the slot the desktop is OK.
If this this is not present then the desktop is empty <gulp>.
I have found the desktop stuff on the usb drive, and thought maybe I
had moved the desktop to the usb hd, and so tried to copy the files
and dirs back on to the desktop, but nothing happens <wierd>.
Please help what can I do to fix this?

TIA

Syd

If you copy files to your desktop, you're just copying them to a folder
called "Desktop". Since Windows appears appears to think your Desktop
folder is on your USB drive, you're just trying to put them where they
already are. By default your Windows Desktop folder is
C:\Users\<username>\Desktop. Right-click the Desktop folder on your USB
drive and select Properties. Click the Location tab and then click
"Restore Default". This should move everything back to its original
location on your C:\ drive.
