Hi all,

I have a hard drive called U: on my Vista home edition with about 10gb.
Recently, the shortcut on my desktop to U: does not work as double clicking
doesn't do anything. I tried to delete the shortcut and re set the shortcut,
still not working. However, if I put a shortcut of a folder under U: e.g.
Pictures folder, it works no problem.

Does anyone know the solution to fix this problem?

Many thanks in advance!

Toto S

Rightclick the shortcut, Properties, Security tab. If you fail to have Full
Control, boot to Safe Mode (F8 on restart) and add it.

Hi Mark, the security tab shows that I have full control. Anything else you
can recommend? Thanks!

I have all updates except 946041, which gave me trouble like that. Do you
have that one? (cmd prompt, systeminfo)

Toto S,

Have you tried updating or uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for
the hard drive? Is the hard drive USB connected? If so you can always try a
different USB port.

Yes, Mark, just added it on, but still not working. Funny, shortcuts to C:
drive and D: drive (which is a recovery drive) working no problem on the
desktop. Its only the shortcut to U: drive is not working. But when I first
got this computer about 6 months ago, it worked fine. All of sudden, it just
went wrong.

Any idea?

Thanks

just an update about this problem: no solutions so far.

Funnily, at work, one of the new laptops which runs Vista Business had the
same problem. This time, it's a shortcut to network mapped U: drive on the
desktop not working. I had to change the network mapped drive name to V:.
Then the shortcut on the desktop works!

Any experts want to look into it? Is it anything to do with the letter 'U'?

will appreciate any replies!

Thanks Toto

Hi Tot
I dont know whether youve sorted this yet but I have just come acros
the same problem with a drive shortcut. 8 partitions and all but on
shortcut work perfectly.

I resolved this by removing the drive letter from the drive in dis
management (administrative tools) then after reboot putting the driv
letter back to original - this worked immediatly

I dont know what went wrong or why this works but it does
