Hey guys, i'm not very computer savvy and am having a problem with my HP
laptop (running Vista), right now i'm in safe mode (+ networking) mode
because my computer froze last night, so I had to hold the power button
and turn it off. Well when I turned it back on, it loaded all my desktop
etc everything looked fine, I could move my mouse cursor and all but I
couldn't click anything, nothing worked.. so I tried again and same
problem, now i'm just running it in safe + networking mode. If anyone
has had this problem some advice would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Hello Reddragon,

You might try a System Restore using a restore point dated before this
problem to see if it can fix it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Start>Programs>Accessories>System tools>System restore

Also, if using Norton, disable it before using System Restore, as it causes
problems doing it.
And you can do a SR from Safe Mode

Open the Command Prompt with Administrative privileges:
Click Start, type CMD > right click it and click 'Run as Administrator'

At the prompt type sfc /scannow

If the problem still persist, try booting into your recovery environment
with your Vista installation DVD or use the F11 option at the BIOS to boot
into the System Recovery Environment.

Choose your language settings, and then click Next.

Click Repair your computer.

Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.

If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:

Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart
your computer by clicking the Start button , clicking the arrow next to the
Lock button , and then clicking Restart.

Do one of the following:

If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the
F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows
logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by
waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and
restarting your computer.

If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to
highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold
F8.

On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair
your computer, and then press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed
as an option, then your computer does not include the System Recovery
Options menu as a preinstalled recovery option.)

Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.

On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.

If that does not work, boot back into Safe Mode, open back the command
prompt with the same Administrative privileges:

Type the following command at the prompt:
chkdsk /f C:

You will need to reboot for it to run on Startup.
