I have a Vista Ultimate installed, with Service Pack 1. It is
activated and genuine.

Everything is working - apart from Desktop Window Manager - hence no
aero, composition, transparency etc.

The error message in the log suggests that my copy of Vista is not
genuine - depsite earlier messages in the log sucessfully validating
the license. There are no popups or information messages during
logon.

Event details below - I can find no mention of a similar problem
anywhere else? Can anybody help?

thanks in advance!

Sinse nobody else seems to be able to help I'll take a half-hearted stab at
it. Try validating here
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/faq.aspx.

If that doesn't work call Microsoft and say WTF!

While not yet of much use to you, I am confirming your situation: after
installing SP1 on Vista Ultimate x32, I find that while most
functionality is proper, the uxsms service is failing to start (or
remain active) and reports the 9022 "not Genuine" error. Revalidating
Vista with the external Product Code (instead of the original OEM code)
does not make a difference.

Supposition: somewhere in the registry, DWM cached WGA status and that
value remains unchanged by revalidation of Windows Genuine Advantage.

The quest is to find that entry and the means to change it...

Did either of you ever come across a good solution for this one? I'm
experiencing the same thing and the Internet is surprisingly scarce on
any info as to how to remedy this problem.

Thanks!
