could be a pop-up blocker stopping access.

Please configure all pop-up blocker software to allow pop-ups from the Windows Update
site. For configuration instructions please refer to the documentation for your
pop-up blocker application. Configuring the pop-up blocker feature included in
Windows XP SP2
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, select Pop-up Blocker.
3. Select Pop-up Blocker Settings.
4. In the Address of Web site to allow box, type windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
5. Click Add.
6. Click Close.

My most humble apologies, Sir. I thought I had turned the POP-UP BLOCKER in
my Firewall OFF - but I had not. Having now done so I can access the
"details" links OK. Sorry for misleading you. Most grateful for your
assistance.
