detecting updates

I have a C#.net Windows Forms application that throws an error
(System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program
with an incorrect format.) during random use if the user does not
reboot the machine after a Windows Update has been installed.

Is there a way to detect that an Update has been installed? My thought
is to check for these before launching the application and forcing the
user to reboot if they haven't.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks
