Determining which updates I need

I,m using WindowsXP Home. With all the updates constantly coming out . How do
I determine the ones , to download , that are essential to keep my computer
secure and running smoothly ? I do some purchasing online but mainly use my
computer for games and communication .

You *need* ALL the Critical Updates
You *Need* SP2
beyond that, the others are your choice.
