Blue screen error. Regular updates. Kb891711 is running? Jack Martinelli
says to disable it from starting, using 'msconfig' to deselect it. Change
your video drivers to the generic SVGA. Reboot. Run 'msconfig' again and add
Kb891711 back to startup group. If that cures your blue screens, check your
system properties for your graphics hardware, and driver version. You can
then revert to your usual graphics driver, and disable Kb891711 temporarily
until MSFT offers a fix.
Noel Paton, who responded to you, also has instructions, but only if you can
verify that Kb891711 is the cause of your problem. If that is true for you,
post back with the graphics driver info, and ask if Noel is still asking for
users to submit reports about the Kb891711 issue; I am sure he will tell you
what to do, if he still wants the data.
Check the group, "microsoft.public.windowsme.general". Look for the thread
subject, "KB891711 - problems?" by Noel Paton. He did cross post it to other
groups, but that is the one I am subscribed to read. If you run Jack's
tests, you should post your result to that thread. Hmmm. I see you are using
that troublesome "Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000" thingy. I think this link
will work; hopefully the angle bracket will keep it from wrapping. OK, I
will post it twice, once my way, once the standard way:
