I have seen some strange cases where during startup and login the NIC driver
loads and starts the login process before Explorer is up and running. The
result is the drives disappear from Explorer but if you open a command
window and type "net use" you will see the drives listed. Very odd.
Microsoft could not explain that one. It seemed to happen more on laptops
than desktops. This also happens quite often when using a VPN, but for
different reasons.
One solution to this is to rerun the login script. This depends on what you
have it written in, most use VBScript, so a call to cscript with the path to
the login script on the DC will do the trick. Quicker than a restart.
