We have two Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition DFS servers. Recently,
one of them will show the DFS link status with a red circle and an "x" for
the status, but the targets it shows the white circle with green check (OK
status). We have several DFS roots (some nested) but when this happens, only
two or three of the roots are impacted. When this error state happens, it
can be corrected by simply restarting the DFS service. When this happens,
approximately half of the end users who are using this problematic DFS server
will report connection issues to the impacted DFS root.
I'm looking to discover the root of the problem so it can be resolved. Is
there a way to enable verbose DFS logging? If so, how do you do it and where
are the logs saved? Right now there is nothing in the FRS, System or
Application event logs.
