Hi all,

I have just setup a Windows 2008 Standard file server. It is a member server
within a Windows 2003 forest/domain. I have 2 domain controllers which are
both 2003. I would now like to setup DFS on the 2008 file server. Can I
create a Windows 2008 based domain namespace? If not, what do i need to do
to be able to create a Windows 2008 based domain namespace?

TIA!

Hello,

First you need to set the domain functional level to Windows 2008. For this
your DC's need to be Windows 2008 server. After that you need to identify the
root servers that are going to host the namespace. These need to be Windows
2008 server as well. And finally create the namespace in Windows 2008 mode.

Regards,

John

Can I have 2 DCs running 2003 and 1 DC running 2008? Each of the DCs are in
their own site. The file server will be in the same site as the 2003 DC. Is
this going to be an issue?

This must be possible otherwise how would you upgrade from W2003 to W2008. You
cannot upgrade them all at the same time.

There are 10 types of people, those that understand binary and those that don't.
