DFS-R - server 2008 - question

Hello,

I'm only using DFS for replicating one shared folder among a few server 2008
machines. My purpose is only to push content to the other servers which are
each at a remote site. Users will be accessing each local share directly....
The main/primary share already exists and is populated with tons of data on
the one machine.

I just ran a test between 2 test servers using a test folder with a few
files just to see how it works. The repl worked fine and I was able to
specify NTFS permission for the target folder on the other machine (target
folder created during wizard for creating the repl group).

now, what about setting up the share for each site? Now that the folder at
each remote site is part of this replication system will I be able to
configure each one individually for sharing? or will those properties be
replicated to the other servers? Likewise, what about modifying ntfs perms
on the folder at the remote site, will that be replicated?

hello, just sharing what I'm finding:

1. if you manually modify ntfs perms on one of the replicated folders (the
root folder, not folders within it), those changes are not replicated to
other servers. I don't know if this could cause problems within DFS-R

2. if you manually change ntfs perms on any of the subfolders within the
replicated folder those changes ARE replicated to the other servers.

3. you use the 'share and publish in namespace' option to setup each
individual share... different share name for each one if you require. The
name of the option is misleading because you don't have to publish in any
namespace, you can just setup the shares.

I think that answers all the questions I had for this post.
