The two DCs are in the same site. They are both also the name servers for
the name space (is this what you're asking about them being the root
replicas?). Is this not recommended?
We actually have only one site as a whole.
The OS version of the clients is XP SP2 and fully patched but not sure if
the specific patch for supporting failover was applied... If that patch was
part of the Windows Updates then it was applied to the clients.
