Hi

I have implimented DFS recently nice with below stretegy.

- Two domain controller server 2008.
- 1st server host 6 folders
- 2nd server host 9 folders
- Third server has DFS replication from Server 1 and Server 2, 64MB bandwith
limit and replication is on always as file change ( this is little slow
server i dont want users to access this unless 1st or 2nd server fail).
- I wants user to access folders from 1st and 2nd server in DFS namespace
always for that i have Override Refferal Ordering and assign those fodler
"First Among all Targets"
- I have also enabled Client fail back to preffered targets
- I have noticed that some users complained me that they dont see some file
or folder when i check that folder DFS tab in properties i see its pointing
to 3rd server whcih i dont wants.

Questions:
- How do i make sure that Users access only 1st and 2nd server from the DFS
referral list?
- How can i check that Users workstaion DFS share all folders are pointing
to 1st and 2nd server without right click and properties on each folder. any
script or something?
- I had issue with explorer freezing with Domain DFS namespace access on XP
machines i applied KB925066 on both 1st and 2nd server when i try to apply
this on both DC its failing does this fix need to by applied on to DCs?-
Issue in which Windows Explorer stops responding on client computers that
are running Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003 in a domain
environment where CPU usage on the primary domain controller is high.

Imran,
Here are some thoughts to your issues:

**I will put server 1 and 2 on the same subnet and put server 3 on a
different subnet. And on Server 1 and 2 I will edit registry key to include
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Dfs
"PreferLogonDC" dword:value of 1. This will force users to use server 1 and
2 as their default dfs shares.

**I think you might need to click on properties for that, but I am not
certain, you can try to map the full path of your shares on user's
workstations

***I am not sure the hotfix application is failing on your DCs. But
question, if you are experiencing this issue on the WinXP machines, then you
will need to apply http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941133/ on your WinXP
machines, but make sure you are running atleast WinXP SP2. KB925066 =
WinServer2003 and KB941133 =WinXP SP2
