If you want fault tolerance you should add these servers as root server in
your namespace and also enable DFS Replication among them. About performance
I would suggest you to check that Sites and site costs in Active Directory
are configured properly and Bridge all site links option in Active Directory
enabled. This will allow DFS to refer client computers to target computers
that have the least expensive connection cost. You can check the options for
configuring DFS at
