I have not been able to play with DFSR for the past year but IIRC DFSR does not
know squat about UNC names it simply replicates the local folder (i.e. E:\Users)
with the remote local folder, i.e. X:\Fred. It does not care what the share
names are. The key part is that the DFSR service is available on both and that
the two local names are known and exist as replication partners/groups.
I may be remembering this a bit wrong, especially as I had the same local
pathnames on both servers. However neither of the replicated folders were shared
at all. It was a school so the home folders were Staff, Year7, Year8, etc. and
these were all subfolders of X:\Home. DFS referrals were set up for the shares
Year7$, Staff$ etc. with targets to ServerA and Server. DFSR however simply
replicated X:\Home and there was no replication for the individual year group
folders as that was taken care of by the larger replaction of the parent folder.
