have been trying to get this going but I'm having problems. On a video that
I saw, when the guy set it up he was able to replicate AND was able to access
the folder that was setup on the local folder and replicating the data from a
remote site.

The problem that i'm having is that after I set up the namespace and added
the folders from the remote site that I wanted to set up dfs on and have them
go to folders on a local server (which are shared folders on the local
server), I can't access the folders. It tells me that they are not
accessable. Also when I try to replicate them, in the event viewer I get the
following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DFSR
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4004
Date: 8/13/2008
Time: 3:39:44 PM
User: N/A
Computer: computername
Description:
The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the replicated folder at
local path E:\Users.

Additional Information:
Error: 87 (The parameter is incorrect.)
Additional context of the error: E:\Users
Replicated Folder Name: Users
Replicated Folder ID: 96E69BBA-1A42-4287-821C-0ED6EA1889A4
Replication Group Name: shah.mchenry.edu\data\users
Replication Group ID: 8100A69F-AF01-4709-AF2B-2139D11D3129
Member ID: A79CD479-F411-4B07-901A-753AD2CD4223

Does anyone have any step by step instructions on doing this correctly or
can help?

Thank you for your help.

(2) Windows Server 2003 R2 Servers / They're both domain controllers
Want to replicate from DC1 (Remote) to DC2 (Local)
T1 between both locations.

I have another situation where I want to repeat this for another remote site

The remote site cannot see E:\ drive. Try setting up the folders as
\\servername\share as participating partners. Then make sure both server can
see each other via name.

\\server1\Users
\\server2\Users

If both can see each other and can open the share then it should work, at
least mine do but I am no expert.

This is at the local site that I can't get into the e:\sharename folders that
gives me the errors.

I have not been able to play with DFSR for the past year but IIRC DFSR does not
know squat about UNC names it simply replicates the local folder (i.e. E:\Users)
with the remote local folder, i.e. X:\Fred. It does not care what the share
names are. The key part is that the DFSR service is available on both and that
the two local names are known and exist as replication partners/groups.

I may be remembering this a bit wrong, especially as I had the same local
pathnames on both servers. However neither of the replicated folders were shared
at all. It was a school so the home folders were Staff, Year7, Year8, etc. and
these were all subfolders of X:\Home. DFS referrals were set up for the shares
Year7$, Staff$ etc. with targets to ServerA and Server. DFSR however simply
replicated X:\Home and there was no replication for the individual year group
folders as that was taken care of by the larger replaction of the parent folder.
