We use Windows 2003 R2 DFSR extensively in our offices across the country,
Files server and Domain Controllers. I have been very happy with the results
however about a month ago I introduced a new Windows 2008 Domain Controller
in a remote office and it works fine but about once a week it just stop
replicating and gives no indication its not working, workers complain because
things aren't showing up then when I force replication it works again.
Any ideas; any known issues with 08 and 03 DFSR?

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Steve,

Look at your dfsr logs in your w2k8 and post to list.. I haven't heard of
any known issue. 2003 R2 DFSR should work perfectly with w2k8 for dfsr. Do
you have fault tolerance in you dfs environment?

Thank you for your reply.

It does not log anything when this happens, my only notification is
complaing users. I create a file on one of the replicates and it never shows
up on the 08 box, then i force replication and it shows up soon thereafter.

The only fault tolerance Ihave is the replicas, I was considering clustering
the enterprise host.

Lastly, this problem only occurs on the 08 box, none of the other dozen or
so servers ever have any problems.

Hello Steve,

Check the w2k8 server manager and make sure that dfsr and all its components
are installed, check services and make sure dfsr and dfs are running. Make
sure the w2k8 box is a member of the replication group as well.

Thank you but I am way past the basics. But here - I found a log.....

The DFS Replication service is stopping communication with partner
<servername> for replication group <share> due to an error. The service will
retry the connection periodically.

Additional Information:
Error: 1726 (The remote procedure call failed.)
Connection ID: 14AB461F-E2C5-430A-89F5-E90EC0F00667
Replication Group ID: FCC4CB6C-440F-47D8-9A19-3B023FE3B820
--

Sorry, I have seen this before and its all I get, I have done the research
but haven't found much. Does this help?

Steve

Hello Steve,

Two things:
Do you have file screening configured? Sometimes this can lead to
intermittent replication failures.
Check your File and Print Sharing ports as well make sure they are not
blocked.
