Operating Environment: Small Business Server 2003

DHCP Issue:
When I open the management snap-in, it says status "Not Connected". When I
click on the server name (server.xxx..local) it reports a green arrow and
status **Active**. After I close the snap-in console and go back in still say
“Not Connected” and so on.

I’ve checked the following:
•When running the command (ipconfig /all) on various client computers the
data says DHCP enabled and under the DHCP address the correct IP address is
displayed. This further ensures that the correct DHCP server being used by
client machines and the DHCP Server is running so I don’t know why it says
“Not Connected” in the snap-in.

•The DCHP server is authorized in Active Directory.

•DHCP Credentials. The credentials on the service were checked to ensure
they were the service restarted however no issue still exists.

•The DHCP service was checked that it set to automatic and is staying in
that started state.

•DHCP Dependencies: Com+Event System , Event Log, Remote Procedure Call
(RPC), Security Accounts Manager, TCP/IP Protocol Driver.

•Ensured that only one DHCP Server is running and the DHCP server on the
router is disabled.

Please will you recommend for any solution to rectify this problem.
Thanks.

Run the CICEWizard again maybe? This will reset all those services to the
correct values won't it? Just an idea

Is there actually a problem with DHCP on the network or are you just
concerned about the "Not Connected" in the snap-in? I beleive you have to
click on the server in order to "connect" to the DHCP to monitor it, nothing
more (ie: it showing you the monitoring status, nothing is amiss).

Sounds like someone has customized the Management Console shortcut, perhaps
by mistake?
