Dial up porblems

I've just installed XP service pack 2 and everything is
working fine apart for my dial up connection.

I can only connect at 31kbps instead of 56kbps. I'm using
a Connexant HSF PCI modem card on a VIA powered Athlon
motherboard. When the initial connection takes place you
can hear the modem struggling to establish the connection.

Can anyone help?

Can't help, but I'm having similar problems - connection is at 31k and cuts
out intermittently when longish downloads are taking place
