Although I am able to connect to the Internet via my dial-up connection
immediately after booting up my computer, this is a one-time deal since I
installed SP2 for Windows XP. If I disconnect from the Internet, any future
attempts to reconnect are met with silence. The dial-up window appears and
the modem tries to dials the number repeatedly, but there is no dial tone or
other sounds that normally occur when attempting to connect. I never
encountered this problem before and have consistently encountered it since I
did the install. When I did a Query via Device
Manager|Modem|Properties|Diagnostics, I received a message that another
device was using the phone connection. Even so, when I picked up the
landline, I received a dial tone. At this time, the only way I can reconnect
to the Internet is to reboot the computer. Any suggestions?
