I just reviewed and clicked for several updates to download but after
clicking on 'download' nothing happened. I don't know how to correct this so
I went to the Microsoft site to have my system checked for needed updates and
there are non that I don't have except one that I choose not to use. I don't
understand what happened to the updates that were suppose to be downloading
to my system so I could install them. How do I correct this?

I am having the exact same question/problem. It looks as though the downloads
took place but they havn't been installed.

I'm new to using this forun so I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. Have you
gotten a reply to this problem yet? Where do I look to see replies?

No Jim. No other replies but yours. Just watch your question if you sent one
or mine if you didn't. We should get a reply soon. I've used the newsgroups
for many problems and they've always been very helpful in the past.
Good luck with using the newsgroups.

Sorry it has taken a full day for me to get back to this. I'm a Realtor in
the New Orleans area and had to hit to road early yesterday.
Yes Jim. The same place, but it seems that I haven't gotten any replies yet
as to what the problem might be or how to fix it. After reading more of these
questions from other people having trouble it seems to be the problem is with
the latest files that Microsoft is sending us as updates. Some people have
downloaded these files, which have installed, and now have major problems
with their systems. I guess with Microsoft sending us updates that haven't
been proven to work properly we don't need worms, viruses or any other
'attacks'. We can just use the update files to wipe out our systems.
Now I'm afraid to ever turn my system off again. I sure wish someone who
knew about this could let me know if the files did download and install into
my system or not and could advise me as to what to do now.

Ha! Ha! I know what your saying about MS. I might be able to help you out
with a few of your questions here. You can check to see if any of your
updates got applied by;
- First, go into your Control Panel & click on "add/remove programs". If
they
were applied then they'll be listed in there. Do you know one of the
KB#'s for 1 of
the updates that you downloaded? In the little window that notified you
of the updates
in the 1st place, the KB#'s are listed there. Mine where not in the
"Add/Remove
Program" list so I know they weren't applied.

- Second, & I know this may not help you much, I found where they were
downloaded on
my system(Windows 2000). They were in the "WinNT" folder in a folder
beneath that
called "Software Distribution". If your running Windows XP I would
assume you have a
similar named folder,,, maybe "WinXP",,, or something like that. My
trouble is I don't
know how to apply them from there anyway so I guess it doesn't do me
much good to
know any of this,,, now does it?? LOL :>) !!

I don't know your level of computer savy here, so pardon me if I've went
over your head with this. I'm an unemployed IT tech guy of 35yrs. In the
meantime, I'll just keep looking for replies to your original question.

Snowing here in Dayton, Ohio. Have about 5 inches on the ground. Burrr!!!!
Hope things are improving for all of you in New Orleans.

Have a super day, Jim

Thanks for the info Jim. I don't know the #'s but I might be able to track
them with that info anyway. I'm not very good with files and folders and that
sort of stuff but I'm doing okay with what I do know most of the time. When I
need help I usually get if from places like this. Newsgroups are extremely
helpfull most of the time.
I drive a car and I'm not a machanic so I guess it's alright to use a
computer even if all I know how to do is type huh? LOL Just kidding; a know a
little more then that, I think.
Thanks for all of the info and help you've given me and I'm glad you are so
educated in this field. I would love to have more knowledge about the
workings of the computer but feel a little less intimadated by it now. I
bought my first computer 17 years ago and have, hopefully, progressed a
little since then. At least I'm not as afraid of the 'delete' key as I use to
be.
You have a great one too and stay warm. I'm cold enough with our
temperatures in the 60's so I don't even want to think of being in those
temperatures.

Hi Jim:
I did go to control panel and clicked on add/remove programs. I checked to
see what updates had installed and the last ones were in November so I know
the ones from the other day didn't install. I never would have thought of
doing that so thanks again.
I just got a notice that I had updates ready to install and they're the same
ones that I thought I had installed the other day. I don't think I'm going to
install them but now how do I know which ones are safe to install and which
ones aren't. A friend of mine told me that he has his system set up to have
the updates automatacially installed and he hasn't had any trouble with his
computer. I'm very confused at this point and don't know what to do. Who do
you think would know what I should do about these updates? What advise can
you give me about that? How does anyone know if these updates have been
throughly tested or not and are safe to be installed before we they're
released and we install them because we feel safe since they were sent by
Microsoft? This is the first chance I've had to get back to this problem.
I thank you for all of the information and help you've given to me thus far.

Maybe you can help me with my question. I can't figure out how to post a new
question. Also - my problem is that my attachments never leave the outbox,
they just keep sending. When I get to work, I find 10 emails with this
attachment, so I know it gets sent. It just never tells me accomplished and
never moves from the outbox to the sent folder. Hopefully, I can find my
answer like you found yours.

Hi Nathan:
I don't know what to tell you about your email problem but I can tell you
how to post a new question. If you look at the box where you're reading the
question it has a menu bar right above the questions. You'll see a square
with lines in it and to the right of it the word New is written. Then theres
another square with lines in it and it has a little purple arrow pointing the
the left. Next to it is the word Reply. Just click on the little box with the
yellow thingy that says New and it will bring up the box for you to write
your question on a new topic. Just follow the instructions and Violi, You've
asked a question.
Good luck with your email problem. I wish I could be of some help but I'm
not good with solving computer problems. That's why I depend on these
newsgroups for help.
