XP Home Edition. On my "All Progames" Button, near top of list I have a
"Windows" and a "Microsoft" update buttons what is the difference between the
two, they appear to be the same screen and produce the same update. and why
is it so difficult to ask a new question if you press the new question button
nothing seems to happen.

Microsoft Update can also update other Microsoft programs. Currently I
believe it supports Office XP and Office 2003. I believe MS has plans
to expand that.

You are much better served if you use a newsreader to access the MS
newsgroups. Use Outlook Express. The Microsoft usenet server is
msnews.microsoft.com. This newsgroup is microsoft.public.windowsupdate.
Open a new News account.

Disable all pop-up blockers.

BTW this question is off-topic for this newsgroup.
Try the Internet Explorer General newsgroup instead.

James;
You or someone else update to Microsoft Update from Windows Update.
At that point the Windows Update link is changed so it now goes to Microsoft
Update along with the new Microsoft Update link.
Microsoft chose not to delete the Windows Update link in case someone chose
to revert to Windows Update.
At that point the Windows Update link would be directed back to Windows
Update.I delete the Windows Update link since I have no intention of going
back.

Microsoft Update covers the same items as Windows Update.
Additionally Microsoft Update covers Microsoft Office and other Microsoft
products on an increasing basis.
