Unplug the scanner connection. If USB, disconnect it. If parallel, shut
down, disconnect, and restart. The scanner TWAIN is only loaded if the
scanner is present to the system. Additionally, since this is HP and HP
loads their obnoxious HP device management software at boot without
giving the user a choice in the matter -and which might be starting the
scanner TWAIN, from the Run command, type: msconfig[enter], select the
startup tab, and uncheck the box for the obnoxious HP device management
software. If you don't know what startup app is the obnoxious HP device
management app, use this site to help identify it:
