Digital Camera Support in Vista?

I've been reading much of what is discussed in this NG and wanted to throw
out a quick question.

Is there any chance that SP1 for Vista will contain better support for
digital cameras?

My Dell XPS 410 running Vista Home Premium see's my Olympus C-8080 but also
reports no storage device can be found.

The drive appears in Windows Explorer but the folder contains nothing. Tried
photo gallery with no results either.

A card reader is on the way to solve this but I was a bit frustrated that
this relatively new camera wouldn't cooperate in Vista.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Otherwise I really enjoy the fresh look and feel to Vista.

btw, I did a lot of searching on this topic but never found a solution that
worked.

I did find a work around for my older HP Photosmart 1000 Printer though.

John

Dell XPS 410

1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo - 2 Gb Ram

256 Mb GeForce 7300 LE

320 Gb WD HD

IMHO a card reader is a much superior solution. It works on all modern OSs
(even Linux), is generally faster, and saves the batteries.

Unfortunately the C-8080 has been around since Win 98/SE days & it is
unlikely Oylimus or MS will bring out drivers for Vista - so the card reader
is most probably the best option.
They just want us all to buy new equipment!!!!

It depends on the camera manufacturer.

For your Olympus C-8080 see:

connecting to Vista
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...winvista.cfm#c
RAW codec
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...odec/index.cfm
Olympus Master 2 software package
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...wareMaster.asp - there
are updates for this package after you have installed it.

Your camera need a driver for Vista. That is the cameras problem not MSs.

Just get a card reader, like you said, and plug it into your USB and use a
free editing program like Gimp or Picasa
