Digital Setting for Music CD Rip and Play

I just purchased my first PC with Vista and I cannot play or rip music cd's.
In Real and Media both refer to an error that system isn't configured for
digital. I followed the instructions to correct but when I get to the spot
to select 'digital' it is already checked.

I go to 'Sync" then 'More Options' than select DVD for my device and then go
to properties, and 'Digital' is already checked. I found this by trial as
the authorized instructions on getting to that point are not exactly what
comes up as you go through the instructions.
