Two people on the list replied to my suggestion by direct mail. I would
prefer this did not happen and all mail be sent as a group reply. Thank you.

This sometimes happens to myself, too, because I don't look exactly whether
I hit the "Answer Newsgroup" or "Answer" button in the WLMail toolbar

Then don't use your real email address! If you look at mine, you will
see it is "". Using the "@invalid.invalid"
domain ensures that you aren't using a real domain. If you use your real
email address you will continue to get email from some people, either
because they don't understand newsgroups or because they think that if
you provided a real email address you won't mind getting email.

I am aware of the way to avoid, it but I did not flag it up so that I could
hid, only that it is not the way to use NGs. I use one address and am happy
that way.

Most of us prefer the same thing you do, and that's why we don't use
our real address here.

I appreciate you way but would still ask people to use a Newsgroup the right
way.

Three points:

1. Some people may note your preference to not get private mail, but
others will not, or will just ignore it.

2. Even among those who note it today, many of them will forget it
tomorrow, the next day, or the next week.

3. There are many new people who come to the newsgroups each day. They
will not know your preference unless you continually repost it (and
please do *not* do that; it would a pain to everyone).

So from a practical standpoint, you *will* get some private replies if
you use your real return address (you will also get spam from spambots
who garner addresses from the newsgroups). The only way to avoid it is
to do as I do, and not use your real return address.

But it's your choice, of course.
